Generosity

Generosity

God is the giver of all good things. The greatest of His gifts to us is grace: the forgiveness of sin and the hope of an eternity in Heaven is more than any of us deserve. So how can we best worship God through our giving? What kind of gift can we give that is worthy of what He has given?

Perhaps practicing generosity is your next step. You may be considering making regular contributions for the first time in your life. Or, you and your family are in discussions about how much or how often you should give. The Bible teaches that some are blessed in such a way to give extravagantly. This is the spiritual gift of giving. If any of these define you, how can you be excellent in your generosity?

“See that you also excel in this grace of giving” (2 Corinthians 8:7).

We are blessed when we practice generosity. A central teaching of the first Christians was, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35).

Our giving should be intentional and at the same time come from a joyful heart of worship. The instructions to the early Christians were, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). What can you give to express your appreciation to God for His indescribable gift of grace?
